I think he meant that if you don't have a plan for your life, then you well end up having a different life than your dream life. You'll end up somewhere you don't wanna be.
I think that this quote means even if you don't know what you want to do in life if you do your best and try hard you can do whatever you want when you decide what you want to do in life
